Angara admits teen star Sarah Geronimo's endorsement helped

MANILA, Philippines -- Citing a generation gap between him and hundreds of young voters, TEAM Unity senatorial candidate Edgardo Angara has said that the endorsement of teen singer-actress Sarah Geronimo has helped boost his candidacy.
Angara, who dropped by the National Citizens' Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) operations center in La Salle Greenhills in San Juan Tuesday, has been ranking between 7th and 8th in the partial, unofficial tallies of Namfrel and the Commission on Elections. He is the first TU candidate to visit the Namfrel operations center.
"Definitely [she helped.] You know, the first time I was elected senator it was 1987. Between '87 and now, a whole generation of voters have come in, and I suspect many of them don't even know what I've done," Angara told reporters.
"I needed a powerful communicator and messenger, so to speak. And I think Sarah did that very well," he said.
Sarah Geronimo became a star in 2002, when she won a popular singing contest on GMA Network. Aside from singing, Geronimo has appeared on television and the movies.
In Angara's television advertisement, Geronimo sang the campaign jingle and mouthed the campaign slogan of the senator, "Ang gara [Angara] ng Buhay [Life is beautiful]." She also introduced Angara as the author of the Free Education Act.
Although Geronimo's endorsement had helped, Angara said he was "still tense" because he had not yet been proclaimed.
"I am still tense because I have not been proclaimed yet…but less tensed and less harassed," said Angara
