Cebuano fans support Sarah-John Lloyd loveteam

Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz were greeted with a jampacked mall when they visited Cebu for their tour of their upcoming movie A Very Special Love. SM Cebu was completely occupied by screaming and hysterical fans - it means that the Sarah-John Lloyd tandem is working! Writers Pilar Mateo and Julie Bonifacio say that Sarah and John Lloyd are completely comfortable with each other during the whole tour!

That answers all the skeptics and Bea-John Lloyd die hard fans.

I think that John Lloyd's ability to make another loveteam work despite being associated with Bea Alonzo for a long time means that he is really a great actor. I think he is one of the best Filipino actors today. Let's support his movie!

SARAH IS A REVELATION

Sa obserbasyon ng marami, lutang na lutang ang natural na husay sa pag-arte ng aktor pero kapansin-pansin din daw ang galing na ipinakita ng Pop Princess. Bagay na sinang-ayunan naman ni John Lloyd.

"Basta ang alam ko si Sarah, nag-shine siya sa movie na ito. She's the biggest revelation in this movie. Iisipin mo napakasimple lang ng role niya, kahit siya sinasabi niya na 'di malayo sa kanya. Light lang pero kung paano niya binigyan ng buhay 'yung light na sinasabi niya, kung alam ninyo lang kung gaano kahirap yun… I think any performer or actress will agree with me na 'di porke't sinabi mong light, 'di lang puro light ang atake talaga. Dalawang dimension yung atake niya, ang galing-galing.

"Habang nagda-dubbing ako nun, napapanood ko siya, bit by bit. Pero nung nakita ko siya nung isang latagan, sabi ko, 'di ko na kailangang i-promote, 'di ko na kailangang papurihan si Sarah. Marami-rami na kaming promotions na nagawa. Sinasabi ko ito hindi para i-promote yung pelikula namin pero sa tingin ko sobrang galing talaga ni Sarah dito."

Sa tanong namin kung bukas ba siya sa isang bagong proyekto na magkasama sila uli ni Sarah, nakakatakot ang isinagot sa PEP ng aktor.

Special Love

"A Very Special Love" is this year's romantic-comedy film featuring the first team-up of Geronimo and Cruz.

The story revolves around Miggy (Cruz) of the Montenegro clan, a rich man who owns several businesses including a publishing firm that he manages; and Laida (Geronimo), the breadwinner of her family.

She is hired as an editorial assistant for Miggy's magazine 'Bachelor.' Eventually Miggy decides to make Laida his own personal assistant and even forces Laida to pretend to be his girlfriend during an event.

The question is whether a snobbish and elitist man like Miggy can fall for a simple woman like Laida.

The movie is a story of two young people from totally different worlds who will discover that love can transcend boundaries.

Aside from Cruz and Geronimo, the film cast includes Joross Gamboa, Matet de Leon, Al Tantay, Gio Alvarez, Irma Adlawan, Marianna del Rio, Miles Ocampo and CJ Jaravata.

John Lloyd is Sarah Geronimo's first kiss

Young actor John Lloyd Cruz is singer Sarah Geronimo's first big screen kiss.

Geronimo refused to give details of their kissing scene, and just encouraged the viewing public to watch their first movie together entitled "A Very Special Love" which premieres Wednesday, July 30th.

"Abangan niyo na lang po 'yun (first kiss) sa movie," Geronimo said.

When asked if Cruz was her first kiss in real life, Geronimo just smiled and refused to comment.

After three months of working together, Cruz and Geronimo developed a friendship that they said they will definitely miss.

"Si Sarah kasi ang pinaka-genuine na taong nakilala ko sa business hindi natatakot ipakita kung sino siya. Walang front, walang pretensions sobrang totoo lang ang makikita mo at saka 'yung appetite niya," Cruz said.

"Pareho din si John Lloyd napaka-genuine na tao. Napasaya niya ako, 'yun lang," Geronimo added.

Geronimo, who turned 20 on Friday, July 25th admitted that she received a Louie Vuitton makeup kit from her leading man.

The birthday celebrator before blowing her cake's candle wished only for the success of their film.

"God please, success of the movie," Geronimo wished.

Sarah Geronimo, superstar?

Know there will be vehement, if not violent reactions, to this column's title from die-hard Noranians here and abroad, but it seems that the time has come for them to accept that Nora Aunor, a dear friend and fellow Bicolano (she comes from the city of Iriga in Camarines Sur and I from the poor town of Libon in the province of Albay), can now live in peace and quiet and relish her glory days as the Philippines first real superstar.

And she should be happy that another girl is captivating the country's imagination, enthralling millions of Filipinos with her performances as a singer and now drawing thousands to the multiplexes to watch her in the movie A Very Special Love.

No, this isn't an exaggeration because I (along with other friends) queued for tickets at the Glorietta 4 cinemas to catch the 8:15 p.m. screening of the movie on its opening day last week. Lo, and behold, the line of excited fans was already snaking around the lobby an hour before the scheduled screening.

Glorietta 4 has a standing policy of no-SRO (Standing Room Only) but it seemed that on that particular screening, the policy was breached as there were people standing at the back and others seated on the aisle.

As the house lights dimmed after a spate of theatrical trailers and commercials for the main feature, the crowd settled down but not for long as they screamed in delight, laughed and even gave Sarah Geronimo's performance occasional but very enthusiastic applause.

For nearly two hours, everyone (nearly a thousand people in the theater) was mesmerized by the girl from Sta. Cruz, Manila, who won the grand prize in an amateur singing contest on television with her nearly perfect coming timing, a natural flair for drama, and a naturalistic approach to acting.

Surprisingly, she had John Lloyd Cruz in her palms and the poor guy had no choice but keep himself in acting cadence with the singer-turned-actor in both the comedic and dramatic sequences.

The movie opened with P14 million gross in more than a hundred screens across the archipelago, and that is no mean feat, especially these days when Tagalog-language movies are being thrashed at the box office by Hollywood blockbusters. This only proves that the new generation of Filipino movie audience is ready for their own screen heroine, not someone passed on to them by their parents or grandparents.

The movie is a co-production between ABS-CBN's Star Cinema and Viva Films. Credits go as well to the effective promotion the network did for the movie, it did wonders for the creation of awareness for Sarah Geronimo's first full-length role. The plugs that run till the wee hours had everyone saying, this must be some interesting stuff why not watch it.

So, Vic del Rosario Jr. is very elated over the box-office results of his new movie. I was on the phone with him the day after I went to watch the movie to congratulate him personally. He said the box-office results were not expected, but he was hoping it would do better than what they projected. The first day gross nearly had him gasping for breath in incredulity. But now, I hope it has sunk in his mind that Viva (who created the megastar) has created a new superstar.

John Lloyd has always been open about his relationship with fashion editor, Liz Uy and he describes it as the most mature relationship that he had so far.

"Siguro kasabay na rin ang pagkaka-edad ko," he began. He said that his girlfriend views things in a wide perspective, even their relationship.

"We have less pressure in making the relationship work," John Lloyd said. He explained that they have set directives to make their commitment beneficial to both of them.

On the other hand, Sarah Geronimo said that falling in love is not something you plan for. But right now, the 19-year-old singer said that she is not yet ready to have a boyfriend.

"Hindi pa ganun ka-broad yung knowledge ko sa mga bagay-bagay at ayoko din pong ma-disappoint ang taong yon. Gusto ko kung magkaka-boyfriend man ako, gusto ko po sana siya na ang pakakasalan ko. Ganun po ang 'A Very Special Love' aking mentality," she shared.

She mentioned too that she has a crush but has decided to keep mum about it. "Nakakahiya po sa kanya," the teen star giggled. Sarah admitted also that there's a singer-actor who's 'umaaligid' but she's not taking his advances seriously.

When asked if they would consider falling in love with each other should the circumstances be different, John Lloyd immediately answered 'Yes!' while Sarah blushed and jokingly asked for help from her mom.

The two then enthused that they have built a good friendship during the shoot of 'A Very Special Love.'

They share common interests like love for food, particularly Filipino cuisine and keeping positive about a lot of things in life.

"Pareho naming love na love tumawa aloud. Pero kaming masayahing tao. At first kala ko napakaseryoso niyang tao eh. Parang mahirap lapitan. Parang hindi ka kakausapin. Pero hindi pala. Ok pala siya," Sarah said about her co-star.

'A Very Special Love' is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and will be shown in theaters on July 30.

John Lloyd finds happiness with Sarah Geronimo

Talented actor John Lloyd Cruz faces changes in his life and career as he turns 25 this coming Tuesday, June 24.

In a press conference, Cruz shared that aside from having a new movie, he also has a new on-screen partner -- a partner that he consider as a new source of happiness, and that is no other than the country's Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo.

"Kasi talagang si Sarah OK kami, nag-click kami. So we are very happy together kapag nasa set kami gumagawa ng eksena," Cruz said about his new leading lady for new movie "All About Love."

Cruz told abs-cbnNEWS.com that he enjoyed every moment with Geronimo during filming.

"Yung trabaho mahirap na so hahanap ka ng source of joy doon sa mismong trabaho--at hindi ako nahihirapang hanapin yon. Dumadali siya dahil sa mga taong nandoon sa loob ng trabaho, everyday you look forward na magshu-shooting ka, gumagaan," the actor said.

The actor also refused to answer if there will be a kissing scene in the movie.

Cruz and Geronimo worked together for a special episode of ABS-CBN's longest-running drama anthology "Maalaala Mo Kaya." The MMK episode has been shown at least thrice due to public demand.

Cruz who had been identified with his long-time on-screen partner, actress Bea Alonzo, admitted that he feels some trepidation over how audiences will accept that he has a new love team.

"Well may takot may kaba pero mas higit yung excitement kung paano at kung tatanggapin ba ng totoong taga-suporta ko yung pelikula."

He added: "Yun nga ang parang somehow parang challenge ko sa mga talagang tunay na susuporta sa akin. Kasi magandang chance ito para makita ko na pwede mo akong iparehas sa iba at pwede pa din akong suportahan."

"Maganda din itong move--medyo daring lang in a sense na yung iba ay nagbabanta na boboykotin, hindi susuportahan. Pero ako naniniwala na yung mga taga-suporta namin ni Bea they know better than that," Cruz said.

Cruz is also set to do a series of shows with heartthrobs Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby abroad for the last quarter of this year.

With a new partner and new projects lined up for Cruz, he still finds time to share his blessings. As a post birthday celebration, Cruz is set to go Katutubo Village in Porac, Pampanga to help in a free medical check-up to young Aetas.

When asked about his birthday wish, the actor replied: "Hindi ko sinasabing nasa akin na lahat pero gusto kong isipin na lahat ng kailangan ko ay mayroon ako. Maaaring higit pa sa kailangan ko ay mayroon ako, pasasalamat na lang, maraming salamat na lang sa lahat ng mga tao at narating ko ang dapat kong marating."

Cruz, who is very private when it comes to his love life, also shared that as of the moment he has not yet set a date on when he will get married.

"Ako wala pa po sa (isip ko) wala pa, hindi ako nagse-set ng edad. Kasi baka sabihin ko 30 pero baka halimbawa next year mangyari. Walaa kong sini-set kumbaga kung kailan siya dumating kung kailan dapuan 'yon na 'yon.

Recently, Vince Uy, brother of his sweetheart Liz Uy said that they really welcome the actor to their family.

"Masyado lang mabait ang family nila. Kumbaga they only have good words for people, siguro nagkataon lang na mas malapit lang ako sa kanila, napakabait ng pamilya noon," Cruz said.

When asked if he still have a dream role he would like to portray, Cruz said: "Ang dream role ko, kasi ngayon ang nakaka-challenge sa akin ay yung mga roles na akala mo ay simple lang yung natural lang sa mga tao. Yun pala yung pinakamahirap na i-portray kung ano ang normal at kung ano ang natural doon ako mas nahihirapan ngayon."

Cruz said that right now he is taking a break from doing television dramas. He is set to do movies this year.

Singing, acting come naturally to Filipina diva Sarah Geronimo

Sarah Asher Tua Geronimo was born to parents Delfin Geronimo and Divina Tua-Geronimo. The third of four children — with siblings Johna Rizzie, Sunshine Grace and Ezekiel Gabriel — Sarah grew up in a rented house in Sta. Cruz, Manila on July 25, 1988. She is also the niece of the TV host of Ating Alamin and owner of a TV production company, Gerry Geronimo.

To say that Sarah possesses a natural love of performing is an understatement. She actively participated in school programs and joined many singing contests throughout her childhood. At the age of three, she was cast in the children's show Pen pen de Sarapen. She also took part in For Kids Only and Hiraya Manawari and later became one of the first batch of stars in the hit kid's afternoon program Ang TV. Yet it was Sarah's knack for singing that would cause her father to focus on developing her talent by enrolling her at the Center for Pop Music, Philippines at six years of age. Her father also encouraged little Sarah to train at home for two hours each day.

In September 2003, Geronimo released her debut album entitled Popstar: A Dream Come True. The album received multiple awards and sold more than 180,000 copies. She also staged a highly successful first solo concert at the Music Museum in the same year. The album produced different singles including "Forever's Not Enough" as well as "Sa Iyo."
Aside from singing, Geronimo also acted in supporting roles in films such as Filipinas, Captain Barbell, and Annie B.. After winning in Star for a Night, she appeared in several GMA Network shows until she finally landed a contract for several programs at TV giant ABS-CBN, her home studio until now.

Geronimo signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN and had her first major break in the acting field starring in the teen soap opera, entitled Sarah: The Teen Princess, an allusion to her cameo role as a child in Sarah, Ang Munting Prinsesa (The Little Princess) where she played the role of the main character's (Camille Prats) playmate. She also became a mainstay in the Sunday noontime variety show, ASAP.

In November 2004, Geronimo released her second album entitled Sweet Sixteen which achieved gold status in one week. The album has since reached double-platinum status in The Philippines, with a raft of top-tier singles and catchy music videos.

Sarah, along with other reality star search winners Rachelle Ann Go and Erik Santos, staged the Night of the Champions concert at the Araneta Coliseum, which also went on a highly successful tour in the U.S. She also played the leading lady opposite singer Mark Bautista, in the fantasy film Lastikman.

Geronimo sang the theme song for ABS-CBN's Star Circle Quest winners Hero Angeles and Sandara Park's, launching their movie Can This Be Love, which was released as a maxi-single and achieved gold record status in one month's time. She also became a mainstay in the fourth season of the weekly teen-oriented show, SCQ Reload, Kilig Ako, replacing Sandara Park as Hero Angeles' love team partner.

In the summer of 2005, Sarah reunited with her fellow Champions for a U.S. Tour of Pinoy Idols: Return Of The Champions, which was staged in selected cities in the U.S. for a two-month period.

Sarah went on to perform in her first major solo concert, The Other Side at the renowned Araneta Coliseum. Viva Records released a live album of the filmed tour in Araneta Coliseum named The Other Side: Live Album.

This year marks another milestone in her career as she lead the cast of one of ABS-CBN's top-rated prime time soap operas, Bituing Walang Ningning (Lackluster Star), an adaptation of the 1985 Philippine hit movie classic. Here, she starred as aspiring singer Dorina Pineda, a role originally played by Philippine's Megastar Sharon Cuneta. She released a soundtrack of the series, which achieved gold status.

Her third solo album entitled Becoming was released in August 2006, reaching gold status in just one week and platinum a month after its release date. The album yielded three commercial singles: "I Still Believe In Loving You," "Carry My Love," and "Iingatan Ko Ang Pag-ibig Mo."

Geronimo continued to spread her wings globally as she staged concerts in Taiwan, Canada, Alaska, and Dubai. She also held a The Other Side U.S. Tour in San Diego, Hanford, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Honolulu, Maui, Washington DC and Atlantic City. While in the U.S. in November 18, 2006, she was chosen by Philippines' boxing champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao to sing the Philippine National Anthem (Lupang Hinirang) preceding his third super featherweight fight encounter against Mexico's Erik "El Terrible" Morales at the UNLV Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She is currently a mainstay of ASAP '07, a once-a-week, noontime musical variety show, and also hosts Little Big Superstar, a reality star search program for aspiring child performers that has recently concluded its third season. Geronimo released a new single "Reach For The Sky" which was included on the soundtrack for "Little Big Superstar" along with co-host Makisig Morales. She also took the female lead role in ABS-CBN's primetime drama Pangarap Na Bituin opposite Jericho Rosales and alongside Maja Salvador, Nikki Gil and Rica Peralejo.

Also, she staged a sold-out second major solo concert last July 14, 2007 at the Araneta Coliseum entitled Sarah Geronimo In Motion. Sarah also concluded Sarah Geronimo In Motion U.S. tour last August-September 2007 with an astounding reception from Filipino communities in the U.S.

Shortly after staging her second solo major concert, she released her fourth studio album entitled Taking Flight which achieved gold status in a short period of time after its release. Taking Flight's lead single "I'll Be Alright" topped different charts in The Philippines as well as the second single "Ikaw." Unlike the music video for "Ikaw," "I'll Be Alright" sources its live video form her In Motion Tour recorded live in the Araneta Coliseum.

Geronimo is set to release a DVD that tour in early 2008.

Sarah, after a highly successful concert tour of the US and Canada, stayed behind in Los Angeles to record her vocal track for the duet with Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough. The track is titled "I'll Be There" and produced by Christian de Walden.

Sarah Geronimo to Mark Bautista: ‘Stop Courting Me!’

Sarah Geronimo confirmed on the Buzz that she told Mark Bautista to stop courting her.
"Hindi ko na masyadong ie-elaborate. Straightforward naman ako sa kanya. Ang sabi ko itigil natin ito kasi alam mo kuya kita. Mahirap 'yung kuya kita tapos binibigyan mo pala ng malisya," the Pop Princess told Cristy Fermin.

There are also reports that PDA season 1 3rd placer, Ronnie Liang, is also courting her. But Sarah denied this report saying "wala naman akong napapansin [If Ronnie is courting her]."

Sarah is currently promoting her upcoming movie with John Lloyd Cruz "A Very Special Love." This is her launching movie and second team-up with Lloydy, the first was with the top-rating episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya which was replayed on tv not just once, but twice.

"A Very Special Love" will be shown this coming July 30 with premiere night on July 29 at SM Megamall Cinemas 9 and 10.
